Ms. Laura Spero
Ms. Spero was born in Washington D.C. on August 5, 1980. She grew up as a soccer player, swimmer, and rower, and competed on the nationally-ranked swimming and crew teams at Williams College. She graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology and Neuroscience in 2002. Ms. Spero began Taekwondo as a white belt at West Side Taekwondo in 2004, and received her black belt in January, 2009. She has been assisting and teaching children’s Taekwondo classes since 2005, and started competing in Taekwondo tournaments as a yellow belt. She is the 2008 USAT featherweight national red belt champion and 2007 AAU featherweight national red belt champion. Ms. Spero also travels each year to rural Nepal, where she directs health and education programs that she founded while volunteering there in 2003. In New York, Ms. Spero is a freelance radio producer, and has an M.F.A in nonfiction writing.
